The Balvenie 21 Year Old Portwood |

Speyside |
||||||||||
A quite spectacular speyside single malt. The Balvenie experimented with finishing before it was fashionable to do so and the PortWood is an excellent example of that process. The rare malt is matured in bourbon casks, then finished in port pipes, adding a complexity to an otherwise excellent whisky that truly makes it award winning. A superb dessert malt which should also be in everyone's collection. Color: Reddish Amber. Nose: Fruity, creamy and nutty. Sweet raisins and dry nuts layered in. It shows its age with a slight mustiness. Body: Full, rich and creamy. Palate: Huge flavor, honey and cream with deep rich complication. Christmas spices add another layer of interest. Finish: Long, dry and nutty. ABV: 47.6% Awards: 2008 IWSC Gold; 2008 Scotch Whisky Masters - Gold; 2006 ISC Gold |
