Developed and launched for the JC Newman Cigar Company's 100th Anniversary, there has never been a cigar like Diamond Crown Maximus...ever! From its especially rich El Bajo Sungrown wrapper harvested on the Oliva family`s Ecuador plantation, to its superb Fuente-style craftsmanship, to its highly unique packaging and presentation, the Maximus is a special full-flavored treat.
It has taken Carlos Fuente Jr. more than 3 years to develop this complex, fuller-bodied taste for JC Newman, but it was worth the wait. Despite its rich, dark Ecuadorian wrapper, Diamond Crown Maximus is not a maduro cigar. The richest, hardiest and darkest tobacco that Carlos selects for Maximus comes from the top corona priming of the plant - and its availability is extremely limited.
Pre-Smoke The DC Maximus is one nice looking stick. From the dark sepia wrapper to the very ornate band, the quality of the craftsmanship is well represented in this cigar. The firm, tightly wrapped cigar has earthy, compost scents and is sweet to the lips on a cold draw. The draw is very good, a result of excellent construction.
Burn
The quality also shows through the burn, which is very straight or self-correcting. The white ash firmly held on for several inches and the quantity of smoke was voluminous.
The Flavor Initial flavors are of black pepper, earth and spice. Cinnamon and clove flavors are readily present in the spiciness.
The second third exhibits a continuing earthiness with dark coffee and chocolate flavors appearing, and the spice receding slightly.
The last third continues with the earthy coffee flavors. For those that are fans of sungrown wrappers and earthy coffee flavors, the DC Maximus is for you.
The oldest family owned cigar company in America, JC Newman Cigar Company, has a winner with the Maximus - a rich, complex and very enjoyable full flavored smoke.
