The Islay Festival of Malt & Music 2010
Throughout the week, in fact on every evening, there are dances, ceilidhs and events organised and run by the Islay Festival Association. During the weekends there are additonal events. There is an Open Fly fishing Competition run for the Saturday before the festival and during the two Saturday afternoons of the festival. There are bowling matches on the Sundays and a Texas Scramble at the world famous Machrie Links Course. There are guided walks and plenty of opportunities to get away from the hectic pace of mainland life.
Running in conjunction with all of these events are the distillery Open Days, these are organised by the distilleries and promise a good time!
The Whisky Tasting Ceilidh (usually on the Monday evening) proves to be very popular and the standard of the entrants to the Whisky Nosing Competition is very high - but don't let that put you off it is all a bit of fun with some dancing thrown in at the end for good measure!
The Islay Festival Association is a registered charity (SC004390) and we are dedicated to promoting Gaelic culture to both locals and visitors. Our main objective for the upcoming year is to shift the focus onto the islands children, the next generation to carry on the gaelic traditions, boths songs and music.
