La Flor Dominicana Ligero cigars are made in the Dominican Republic by Litto Gomez. While many cigars made with ligero tobacco are on the fuller side, the La Flor tends to be more medium-full.
Pre-Smoke
The La Flor is wrapped in an interesting Ecuadorian sun grown leaf and is an unusual mottled brown color. The cigar itself is very firm and densely packed. A fabulous cedar, clove and floral scent is detected in the wrapper, and upon clipping maintains this lightly spicy flavor on the cold draw. The draw itself is indeed very firm.
Burn
The foot does take a while to toast and then fully engage, but the construction is excellent as there are no real burn issues throughout the smoke. A good volume of smoke is created and the ash is a nice tight furrowed whitish-gray that holds on well for about an inch.
The Flavor
Upong lighting the first flavors are of earth, sweet spice and pepper, but not as strong as some other tasters have mentioned in their reviews. As the burn progresses, the flavors tend to mellow out and never became harsh or bitter.
The complexity of flavors remains into the second third and cedar and sweet notes appear occasionally, while the earthy background continues. Some slight touch-ups are required to keep the burn even, but overall there are no major construction problems in this stick.
Pretty full bodied by the time the final third is reached, and the earthy flavors tend to dominate, while the cedar notes recede. We have read of some construction problems in other sticks, so inspect your cigar well before you purchase. Overall, this is a fine full bodied cigar that is a great after dinner treat.
