From the oldest cigar factory in the Dominican Republic comes the 1495 line of cigars, created to celebrate the founding of the city of La Aurora's birth, Santiago de los Caballeros. Combining five types of leaf from four different countries, it achieves a complexity that few other cigars achieve. The 1495 utilizes an Ecuadorian Sumatra sun-grown wrapper, and Dominican corojo binder. A blend of Dominican piloto cubano and Nicaraguan and Peruvian ligero leaves makes up the filler. Each leaf brings its own set of flavors to this table, and these are masterfully blended in this cigar.
Pre-Smoke Wrapped in a lovely chocolate brown Ecuadorian wrapper, this cigar begs to be smoked. The wrapper exhibits few veins and a light sheen and encloses a firm well constructed core.
The wrapper scent is all spice and sweetness, and a cold draw produces an sweet earthy flavor.
Burn
No complaints here, this baby burns evenly with a solid, tight ash and a fine burn line. The 1495 also produces alot of smoke per puff, but it is smooth and aromatic.
The Flavor We loved the way the flavors rolled through this cigar. An initial earthiness combined with pepper and spice to wake the taste buds. After that it was all earth and spice with noticeable waves of distinct flavors - nutmeg, cinnamon and cedar. Very complex but the 1495 shows off the blenders skill as it maintains balance even with all those tobaccos in there.
Along with a smooth draw, excellent balance and medium to full strength, this is one enjoyable experience.
While not new and flashy, the La Aurora 1495 should be in everyone's rotation. It is moderately priced and of very good quality too. Spend some time with this cigar to experience all its nuances.

Compass Box Spice Tree
Another matchup with incredible balance and complexity. The Spice Tree keeps the combination sweet and light with vanilla and fruit flavors, while the cigar deepens the tone with its earthy base. Spices compare in both malt and cigar.
