Dark and attractive, another Don Pepin Garcia masterpiece. Sporting a beautiful Corojo Maduro wrapper, and characterized by a perfect draw, excellent burn and fabulous flavor, this is one Nicaraguan puro that is a staple in many collections.
Pre-Smoke A very attractive cigar, especially with that luscious chocolatey color and contrasting white and gold band. The wrapper is gorgeous, oily, slightly toothy, and dark chocolate brown.
The JJ Maduro is firm and well packed, with a few veins but no noticeable flaws in the wrapper. The triple cap is perfectly applied and easily clipped.
Unlit, a barnyard scent exudes from the wrapper, along with an earthy aroma. A cold draw gives a sweetish flavor.
Burn
The JJ Maduro lits easily and maintains a clean burn line that self corrects. A medium gray ash holds on well and the amount of smoke is fantastic. A slight tug on the cigar produces a mouthfull of cool smoke.
The Flavor Many of Don Pepin's cigars start with a little pepper, and the JJ Maduro is no different. It lasts about a half inch then settles into a earthy flavor with chocolate, coffee and spice notes. Very rich and complex, this cigar is also smooth once the pepper fades.
The JJ Maduro continues to produce a creamy full bodied smoke throughout the entire length. Wood flavors emerge in the middle with a sweet finish, then turn darker again. The pepper returns in the last third and tickles the back of the throat.
This is a medium to full bodied cigar, expertly constructed and wonderfully complex. Once again Don Pepin Garcia has created an amazing cigar.
